Simple:Press 4.4.0 for WordPress 3.1 – Beta for Beta

The team have finally released Beta 1 of their next major version of WordPress – 3.1 and once again due to some core changes it is necessary for Simple:Press to release updates.

If you are tempted by beta software and couldn’t wait to try the newest WP then our 4.4.0 Beta 1 release will be required if you also want to load up Simple:Press. It is available now on our download page.

We have been running both WP 3.1 and SP 4.4.0 for a few weeks now on this site with no apparent problems but if you do load it up and come across any issues then please do let us know via the new 4.4.0 support forum.

Version 4.4.0 contains fixes to any and all bugs we were made aware of plus those few, new items we were able to fit in. The main bugs fixed are:

  • Feeds were being made available to guests without permissions
  • Videos in posts showing up in the post tooltips and breaking the display
  • The first post in a topic being deleted on a browser refresh following the deletion of the second post
  • Failure to fully create a members data when the first-name/last-name were set as display name in profile
  • Editing a post with a shortcode in it messed up the shortcode display
  • Forum permalinks getting randomly reset
  • ‘Sneak Peek’ not showing Group/Forum listing
  • Counts for Inbox/Subscriptions/Watches disappearing during an autoupdate
  • Subsequent images in a thread failing to support the popup images after being unable to discover ones width
  • Searching improved – it has not been returning a full list of matches
  • Page links could disappear for the Members List
  • Forum Skin not defaulting to ‘default’ if not set
  • Trackbacks and Pingbacks getting carried across as comments in blog linked posts
  • It was not possible to assign topic status to an existing topic
  • It was possible to start SP with no editor selected
  • Removing the page title also removed it from the new WP menus
  • Editing a post with a spoiler displayed incorrectly
  • Randomly placing SP in Upgrade mode

And – some new or improved features include:

  • Improved BuddyPress compatibility with workarounds for BP conflicts
  • Updated jQuery libraries and the TinyMCE editor to latest versions
  • Switched to the new WP User Search capability
  • Workaround for those plugins and themes that (for reasons unknown but we wish they wouldn’t) convert php end of line characters for html line breaks
  • Basic support for Custom Post Types in blog linking
  • Improved Install/Upgrade error trapping and reporting
  • Change to sf_forum_link() template tag to return value instead of echo
  • Improved wp_list_pages() filtering to workaround old WP bug
  • Improved display of User Group memberships
  • Minimum and maximum word length settings shown in search dialog
  • Syntax Highlighting now available in PMs
  • Forum Admins now have a section in the members list
  • Improved post edit line break handling in TinyMCE editor
  • Firefox ‘as you type’ spell checker now available in TinyMCE
  • New filter available on the WP get_permalink() function for the forum page
  • Smileys now available for post edits
    • Plus – a few display ‘clean-ups’.
