Simple:Press includes a great way that you can easily add a widget to show recent posts to your website on any or all pages of your website.

You can use this widget in any WordPress theme in any available location that your WordPress theme supports. You can select what you want shown, how many recent posts and other information that is valuable to you and your users.
Here is how you would set this up.

Get the Simple:Press Plugin

The Widget is available in the Template Tags Plugin which you can get on the Simple:Press download page.

If you are unfamiliar with how Simple:Press plugins work  or how to install them there is more information about this on our  Using Plugins page.

Activate the Template Tags Plugin

Once you have added the Template Tags plugin to your website you would go into the Simple:Press Administration > Plugins page and activate the plugin.

Add Recent Posts Widget to your website

Now that the Template Tags and Widgets plugin setup and activated you will see the Recent Forum Posts widget available on your wp-admin Widget page. If you don’t see it then you should recheck your installation and Integration – Storage Locations menu in your Simple:Press admin area.

Drag the  Widget to the spot where you want to show your recent forum posts. Once there it will open up and allow you to specify the information you want shown.

Configure the Recent Posts Widget

There are quite a few options that you can choose from with this Widget. Depending on where you place it and what you want shown you may want to play with the settings to get it just right for your website.

Here are the available settings.

Also shown when the widget is open are is the descriptions and help for the various options.

Display Order and Inclusion

This parameter controls both which components are displayed and also the order in which they are displayed.
The default FTUD display order shows the Forum Name then the Topic name followed by the Users name and then date.

You can rearrange  the display order by rearranging the order of these parameters. Keep in mind that no spaces or other characters can be used

Some examples:

To completely remove showing a specific component then you can remove it from the Display order.
To add in the members Avatar then add the “A” to the display order at the position you would like it to be shown.

Note: When entering Forums ID’s do not use a trailing comma after the last ID number.

Save your settings and then go to your website and you can view the new widget’s display. If you want to change the settings you can go back and adjust them as needed.

Multiple Recent Posts Widgets

Simple:Press allows you to use this same widget multiple times with multiple configurations. You can show the widget in a side bar or footer or, depending on your WordPress theme, use a different widget for different pages.
